Medivh did open the Dark portal when he was under corruption of the Titan Sargeras.
He was killed some years later in his home Karazhan by his disciple Khadgar, who senced the demon pressence in his master.
He’s kinda immortal since he is the last guardian of tiristfall and in possetion of limitless power.
He tries to make up for his past mistakes.

that “bird guy” is called Medivh a prophet if you will that has opened a dark portal bringing the orcs under the control of the legion to azeroth. for this he was executed. but he revived somehow. and now the legion is coming to destroy azeroth and medivh is warning all of the “bosses” (lolz) of both factions to stand together and defeat the legion
